I know we have a lot of dope TV shows on the air right now, but Fox’s Thursday night trifecta of Living Single, Martin, and New York Undercover couldn’t be touched.
I watched the show faithfully right up until they killed Eddie off.
That stunt was unforgivable and they really tried to continue the show, too. The operative word being ‘tried’.
They bricked the attempt.
The show had an unforced coolness. It looked natural and the backdrop of New York City helped enhance the visual.
I wanted to go to Natalie’s like it existed in real life.
Andre Harrell and Dick Wolf seemed to fuse two worlds together perfectly.
I assumed that I would just cop the first three seasons and be a happy man.
NOPE.
The show has never appeared on DVD. It ain’t on Netflix. It ain’t on HULU. It’s barely in syndication.
Truth be told it pisses me off.
It was a great show and I hope sometime in the near future it gets a proper release to a streaming service or on DVD.
In the meantime I’ll keep listening to this.

Me again Marc. Just found out you can watch Seasons 3 and 4 on Amazon prime. Not even sure all episodes from those Seasons are airing. And I wanna see all of season 1 and 2 too.
If Amazon Prime would stream all seasons and all episodes, and offer download sales. That would be plenty enticement to join their streaming service. I’m considering joining Netflix since I hear they offer more content. I’ll be checking out what’s going on with Hula too.

I been looking for NY Undercover on DVD for over 5 years. Never saw it all the way through. Can’t find Flamingo Road and the 1991 series, The Home front on DVD either
I hear that there’s music rights issues preventing NY Undercover from being released on DVD. Think I’m gonna bite the bullet and buy the bootlegged versions of the aforementioned shows. That’s probably the only way I’ll get them. Thanks for listening.

I finally gave up and purchased a bootlegged DVD copy. Just ordered it over the weekend and crossing my fingers that they turn out. As Mary said, I’m pretty sure the producers didn’t secure music rights from all of the artists that were featured on the series and that’s preventing a DVD release. It was a costly mistake for the studio that sponsored the series as I believe the show would sell well. It’s a real tragedy since it was such an underrated series in its prime…and is very unlikely to see much of a legacy because of its limited profile a generation after it originally aired.

You’re right. A generation of kids don’t know that it’s an awesome show and it’s Dick Wolfe’s first show. It was ahead of it’s time and I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

Smokin Mark. Where did you get NY Undercover on DVD? Let me know on this post when you get the chance. In a case like this. You have to take a chance on bootlegged DVD’s. I’m gonna get The 3 or 4 season 1991 Home front series too. So much family drama, laughter and togetherness.
I think shows like NY Undercover are probably airing and being syndicated outside the United States. Somewhat different copyright/publishing/royalty laws in some cases. Another good family entertainment show besides the Waltons and Smallville is The Heartland filmed in Canada I hear. Love the scenery and the family drama. The aforementioned shows are on DVD. But it’ll cost $100 plus USD for the entire series. Maybe I’ll remember to look for the 2018 Christmas sales and see if it makes a difference.

I loved the show, and I am extremely disappointed to not be able to own it on DVD. Fox’s Thursday night lineup could not be beat during this era!!

There’s never been a show like it and there will never be one like it either.

I watched THIS show religiously Thursday night’s. There was a lot of bad blood behind the scenes with THIS show. As always it ended up being about money. It was so popular Malik Yoba and Micheal Delorenzo wanted raises and was turned down repeatedly. It was never the same after they killed off Torres’s character. The politics behind the bad blood is the reason it still the reason it didn’t get to DVD. I was lucky maybe 15 year’s ago, I purchased the entire series off eBay. The copies are DVD burned, but they’re really good just like DVD copies. It’s amazing people are still trying to find the series on DVD, and it only lasted four seasons! Some places only stream seasons 3-4. The really good seasons are 1 and 2.

It’s a shame too because the show was iconic and I’m kinda glad the reboot didn’t go through because it would’ve been forced. For a while BET + had re-runs.

New York Undercover is on Amazon Prime Video!!! I found it on Prime a few weeks ago on July 3rd 2022. I believe it’s Seasons 1-4. Don’t know how long it’ll be on prime. But I’d figure I share it with others. I actually saw this article a few years back and it’s great to know there’s still fans of NY Undercover. Happy watching and shout out to Marc Avery, the writer of this article!!! 😆

It’s also on peacock/peacock TV. Unfortunately it’s not free. Peacock app is free for some movies/shows, NY undercover pretty sure you have to have peacock premium. And they have all 4 season’s
